Should I be building trade centers in every single province that I march into in EU game
Written by admin on March 8, 2010 – 1:12 am -I just purchased this game at my local mall yesterday evening. I took it home, installed it, and spent about four hours running through the Ireland tutorial scenario (twice). I am just beginning to get the feel of the game. Is it normal to have no gold in the bank by the time I get reach the continent from the British Isles? I just can’t seem to maintain a positive cash flow, for some reason. Am I generating too many armies, maybe? Should I be building trade centers in every single province that I march into? Or settlers? What am I doing wrong? I am a slow learner, I guess. Any help would be, well, helpful. Read more »

Is it mathematically possible to gain 700 points in the final 70 years in EU game
Written by admin on March 5, 2010 – 10:43 pm -In an igc as Spain, I blew a huge lead and find myself in 1700 trailing in fifth place roughly 1000 to France’ 2000 victory points. So I’ve decided to play spoiler, hacking away at the leader until ile de France has begun to look like an island indeed in French Spain. Now I’m 1200 vs 1900. Probably there’s not enough time left, but suppose I did manage track down every last province round the world to annex them. Would that be enough take their position? Is it mathmatically possible to gain 700 points in the final 70 years?
Only 1000? What have you been doing for 200 years??? You should have explored and colonized like crazy, maybe a war or two to spice things up a bit. But annex France and maybe some others as well, you might be able to beat this score, i’d say. Read more »

Is it possible to explore the Great Lakes in EU game?
Written by admin on February 27, 2010 – 5:10 pm -Is it possible to explore the Great Lakes, or are they always TI? I’ve walked units around them and built cities next to them, but they just won’t reveal themselves. I find that little patch of white in the middle of my territory annoying.
I keep stating here that I don’t do mapswapping, too easy. How come u never seen that yet? And I hardly ever come into contact with the Iroqois and if I do I ally. He could just type in Columbus ifit bothers him too much obviously. I uncovered them once. Sheer fluke, I think…. if you own land next to TI there’s always a faint chance you’ll uncover it, but in this case it’s pretty faint.
I have (much too easy and well, quite dull, too isolationist for me but I like the ships but I could also go that way with Castille). When England I allied with the Iroquois. Another reason I like to play Spain instead of other colonial nations is that it can be harder than the others if played historically. I know Spain is easy, like all those nations but still, but I add lots of restrictions. And roelplay historically. Fight purely for religion (force converting England) and stick to South America and Mexico. Although the godl is there the rest are actually quite shitty provinces when compared to the colonial richess in the Far East. When I play another nation just race to India and voilĂ . That’s where the real wealth is IMO. Now Spain can get the gold and the spice trade before someone could say “boo”. It’s not like Portugal can stop u. And u have the conquistadors. But instead of that by sticking to the historical patterns I leave that other wealth open to be tapped by the enemy and build cities in South America. Ultimately quite crappy ones slowing my research. Read more »

Athiesm and the religious sliders in great EU game
Written by admin on February 24, 2010 – 12:30 am -I havent seen this anywhere in the forum, and if this isnt the place, im sure the mods can move it to the appropriate area. I know there are a few fellow athiests on the forum, and i was wondering how you feel playing with the religious sliders, and what kind of effect does it have on your strategy. I know i use them as a pragmatist would. If i get a muslim prov up goes the tolerence. since ive only played wetern europe powers so far, orthodox usually gets put to the bottom, then a balancing act with the others depending on what i own and who i want to ally with or piss off. I do feel kinda slimey doinig so, but its only a game. but i cant help wonder how real ppl in power can do the same thing with real ppls lives. Also i wonder if ppl who are religious play the game based on their views(A catholic person keeping England catholic, or A protestant converting spain or france.
Just roleplaying. IF I play Spain for instance I will play the staunch catholic and beat up on dirty protestants. When playing Persia, I’m the bringer of the true Islam faith and so on. Religion was huge back then and I play as such. Withing the realms of historical plausibility. This does mean that at times I just shoot in my own feet. Monarchs back then did so too. Intolerance didn’t serve them in the long run and we know that. I don’t (ab)use that knowledge. Read more »

What are some conditions under which a game nation in EU will accept an offer of a game loan
Written by admin on February 23, 2010 – 1:47 am -I’ve made several offers to allies, neutrals, nations at war, at peace, some with 1% interest rates, but they are always rejected. I’m thinking this may be a way to increase my income a little, or get some convenient casus belli.
In my IGC I’m playing Prussia. It’s 1620 and my goal of making the Baltic my own personal lake is about 2/3 complete. I have left to take two Swedish, two Finnish, and one Polish territory. It’s very difficult to fight up in those cold, northern areas with such high attrition!
You need to have some good relations, and start with a 1 d 1% loan and increase. Then you offer like up to 1000d at 10% and your good. Good luck with your Prussian Baltci lake. Read more »
